Is it ok to be Topless in public?

Boobs in New York!

This topic has been on the minds of people for too many years to comprehend.

Let’s back it up, shall we?

Where did clothing come from?

If you are creationist, then you know after the snake convinced Eve to take a bite of the fruit from the tree of knowledge, she discovered that she was naked and was ashamed.  After convincing her husband or partner to eat of the same fruit, he too found that he was naked and now ashamed.

I know this makes so damned little sense to most that you must either take it as allegory or swallow the rest of it as the “Gospel.”

Putting talking snakes and the tree of knowledge aside, why were they ashamed.  It was only the two of them in the entire world.  Oh yes, god was there walking through the garden.

Don’t take this criticism of Genesis to mean any more than I see the bible a bit differently than some.

My point is, I do not think that this is where clothing came from.

“Where did it come from then TW?”

“Wow, nice of you to ask.”

Early man was nomadic.  Early man followed its food source which was also nomadic in that it traveled north or south per the seasons.  Somewhere along the way “probably from watching animals,” man discovered that certain leafy things were good to eat.  With that advent of a developing agrarian culture, they stayed put, during seasonal changes.

Oops it got cold, and we are naked, what shall we do?  I know, the animals have thick fur what if…?

I doubt that fig leaves were the first clothing and indeed doubt that they were created for modesty.

There is plenty of evidence to prove that early man had much more natural clothing, i.e., hair.  If you read Saga of the Starduster, I talk about that as the two species get to know one another.

The first clothing was most certainly for protection from the elements.  As they wore it more often, their bodies evolved losing much of the hair as now they did not need it for the warmth or protection.

“What is all the fuss about women going topless?”

Early man was used to being around nude people, and boobs did not act as sexual stimuli. As a person today when we go to the beach, and we see another person of the opposite sex, try to notice where your eyes go to when they are not looking into your eyes.

If you are honest, you will admit that they go to the parts of their bodies that are covered with some clothing whether it be a complete drapery of dress or a Wicked Weasel Bikini.  Why?

Our human brain will look for what is missing and fill in the blanks kind of like this “W_RD.”

It is human nature the way that we are designed, and once you wrap your brain around that, you can understand some of the problems with the question that we need answers to.

Because we are a “modest” society, breast and genitalia, have become sexualized to an extreme.  People have made fortunes exploiting that in magazines and other media by providing a peek at the nude human either in movie or picture or even through the written word.  Sex Sells, and that is due once again to our human nature.

It all goes to the reward center of our brains.  That same center that keeps us addicted to smoking and overeating.  Chemicals are released when we feed it. Release enough substances, and things start to happen.  With men they become priapic and women, libidinous.  Chemicals are released to begin the process of procreation, and that is just the way it all works.

Since most today are not used to seeing people without clothing, when they do, it starts the process. Let’s not pretend that it only happens with men either that would be a lie.

“But TW, it is not fair that men can walk around without shirts on and women cannot.”

“I know very few men who would fight a woman on that.  Those that believe everything in Genesis is the word of God might say that they are offended, but they would still sneak peeks.”  Why, they are men and are wired that way.  Other women that might have issues with it would be those that were insecure with their own body and truthfully that is their problem. And it is a problem as everyone is beautiful and that mindset that some are not is faulty.

“Well, why do men have tits?”

“What a great question!”  Men, you might want to skip over this next paragraph if you are fragile where your man card is concerned.

It would seem that when a fetus starts out it starts out as a female.  Yes, everyone that you know started out life as a girl.  For you overly religious types sorry to rock your world too.  Where Genesis talks again about taking a rib from Adam and creating Eve, the evidence would point to something entirely different.

Everyone starts out life as a female.

“How do you know that?”

Evidence.  Lots of lots of scientific evidence.

When the fetus hits a certain point in its development, things happen to genes to either virilize the baby in that womb, and turn it into a boy, or they don’t happen.  If they do, and everything works as it should the wiring in the brain changes.  The ovaries drop and turn into tentacles.  The clitoris turns into a penis, and the labia turn into a beautiful little house for the testicles called the scrotum.  That line up the middle of the scrotum boys, that is a scar where the labia formed to become the scrotum.  Yes, the tits are still there, they just don’t have the swollen mammary glands that females have.  Some men have actually been known to lactate.

How is that man card now boys?

Knowing that the only difference between male breasts and female breasts are swollen mammary glands, should it be legal for men to walk around topless?

“Now honestly, did you expect me to turn that around like that?”

Americans are prudish, and some are addicted to sex.  We have over-sexualized the female and to an extent the male through media from Hollywood.  Sex sells, and in advertising, we use it to sell everything from insurance to sports cars.

If you take prudish behavior and mix it in with Topless Tuesdays, we see some men who misbehave.

What are we as a society supposed to do?

I have some thoughts on that.

I would like to see parts or areas of cities where nudity is permissible. With warning signs in those areas alerting that those that have issues with nudity, should probably steer clear of the area.  Personally, I think it is healthy and normal. The human body and all of its bits are not sex toys for the addle-minded bible thumping go to hell or praise Jesus crowd.

The sex organ that some people define as genitalia is not in fact genitalia or breasts.  It is your brain.  All of the parts of you that make you unique are not your rude or wobbly bits.   What makes you the beautiful, talented, gorgeous person that you are, is sitting on top of your shoulders.  Anyone who thinks differently is not well educated or has been brainwashed by someone or something.  (In my humble opinion.)

“Why not nude downtown in Times Square?”

For the same reason that drunks should not go into places where alcohol is served, people with an addiction to pornography should not go into strip clubs or places where nude people can congregate together.  If we are all in some park and nude, you still have no right to come on to someone and act a fool.  The person who you are seeking to connect with is not the breasts and bush that you see, but the gray material between their ears.

I deal with this and much more in Saga of the Starduster which out of 25 Novels is my number one best seller.
