Can I rant for just a moment?

Wow, Microsoft what the hell.  I thank God this did not happen on my main computer.

I have an older computer that I use in a remote office.  I had Office and essential apps but again nothing important that is not sitting on OneDrive.

I get this update notice to migrate to Windows 10…Hmmmm Ok, why not?

Why not indeed.

There is wisdom in this old axiom, “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!”

Hit this beautiful little button, and off we go.  After the update finishes, my computer ceases to boot normally.  The screen is sized down, and it takes forever to just get to the login screen.

Once I log in I notice that I have no start button, cannot bring up task manager or access any apps.

“Great! It is not the computer or the software that troubles me as much as it is now my precious time that I must invest to fix this.”

There is no number to call them and say “WTF?”

Chat online… Ok, the browser kind of works let’s try that.

Hours later a support person gets on to fix it.  From 55 ahead of me I finally get to the front of the line.

Whoopee!

She “dials in” and starts the process.  The screen goes black and flashes on occasion as I sit there waiting patiently for her to finish.

Without warning, she disconnects, the computer re-boots and never reboots.

I pull out a version of Windows 10 pro and work through a repair scenario.  The computer will never get back to a place where it will boot.

Doing all the tricks that I know to do I make the decision to purchase another hard drive and re-install windows on the new drive.

The new install goes off without a hitch, Working with the “team at MS” I get my license for office and re-install it. “I wonder if they can fix it where my key that I just used I can keep as I had a valid key for this computer already?”

Once again in the cue and once again I get some dude who dials in and does stuff.

Hours later he disconnects, the computer reboots, and I assume all is well.  I never get an e-mail telling me that I can now use my key and the computer is now unstable.  Updates start to download and then the computer blue screens, collects information, sends it back to Mama Microsoft, and I am fit to be tied.

Now here is the conundrum.  Do I re-install Windows 10 again, and office, and just hope that there are no bugs?

I must admit that tossing the thing into the trash has become a compelling thought as I waste my time on basic computer stuff.  This should be a no brainer.

Having said all that I am wondering about you folks.

Is it just me or do you have Microsoft stories?

I would much rather be writing or marketing my novels then messing around with the BSD!
