Divided We Stand!

Romance novels are never out of style!

Journalism in the US is in Crisis.  To get ratings, or hits on news sites, just about anything will pass for journalism. Opinions are passed off as fact, and many don’t bother to check the sources to see what it is that they are reading or listening to.

If I am engaged in a logical debate with anyone on any topic, it will hopefully provide a healthy discussion.  Debates are critical in communicating one’s opinion on just about any subject.

As a young person, I was warned to never discuss three topics.  While the issues are telling and date me, they were:

  • Women’s Lib
  • Politics
  • Religion

Never mind those issues themselves, as those are not the focal point of this blog.  The topics themselves are fraught with what?

“opinion and emotions.”

When one tries to debate an opinion it is the proverbial Kobayashi Maru  (Star Trek term)  They are a no win debate.  Much like trying to nail jello to a wall, you will get nowhere.

Television commercials of the day were rife with Virginia Slims Cigarette ads with the theme. “You’ve come a long way baby!”  While inhaling carcinogens was supposed to somehow make you feel good about yourself, the idea was, that women were liberated and they could smoke in public. Why not smoke a cigarette made especially for women.

All of these topics were so rife with emotions that it would be just about impossible to sit down and have a civil conversation without animus of some sort, rearing its ugly head.

If someone today stands behind a megaphone and has an opinion about some topic that you don’t agree with, animus comes out. What is worse, we have a 24 hour 7 day a week news cycle that perpetuates its own narrative.  Once again not fact checking, using anonymous sources they push out a story.  Social media is complicit in that these narratives are pushed out on Twitter or Facebook without checking the facts.

By the way, if you need a megaphone, you have already lost.

Celebrities who push out their emotionally driven rants fuel the fires and people listen because they see them on the screen, and feel they know them.

You don’t know them!

While intellectual debates prompt discussion, emotional debates prompt action.  We have seen it over the last few years in the US, and around the world.

Those that stir the pot must take some accountability for their narrative.  Much like yelling fire in an auditorium what you say, should have consequences.

My argument is this.  Michelle Carter was just found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for tweets to her x boyfriend suggesting that he kill himself.

“Gees TW that is a far stretch, she told him to commit suicide!”

Kathy Griffin held up a bloody facsimile of President Trump’s head.  Many unhinged people around the world saw that, making it that much tougher for the secret service and the president and his family.

Shakespear in the park in New York portrays President Trump being viciously attacked and killed by his own staff.

The shooter who shot at Republican Senators had a social media account full of anti-trump rhetoric including many pieces by CNN.  Rachel Maddow who is not a   Trump supporter was prominent on his page.

This type of emotionally charged activity can prompt the emotionally challenged to act out badly.

If I were Michelle Carters’ Attorney I would seek another trial and point out that what she did is no worse than the emotionally charged false attacks on a sitting president.

The real argument in this case is. “Are we required by law to report someone who may be a danger to him or herself?” The argument today is no; unless you are a health care professional.

I only loosely followed the case.

  • Did she know that he was serious?
  • Was she sarcastic in her text like “leave me alone you freak!”
  • I am confident that they dug into this, but it is an interesting case.
  • Yes, a man is dead, but it was by his own hand.
  • How many couples torture their mate in psychological ways unknowingly, right now?
  • If attorneys could get OJ off, certainly a good lawyer could get her off as well.
  • I think she was a teen at the time as well, an emotional teen and not very smart! Is that cause for twenty years behind bars? I don’t think so.

My point is, what we say matters.  Those with the larger megaphones IE journalist should be held to higher standards!  The trolls on Twitter spewing hate through some pseudonym should not be listened to. Many are in fact robots spewing out hate word salad.  Those that own those robots should be held accountable.

Wednesday, Tucker Carlson was admitted to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy.  The “loving Left” was promptly tweeting vile things about this lightening rod on Fox News.  The left used to be the loving left, what the hell happened?

Whether you agree with him or not, wishing bad things to happen to him, is over the top and not far afield from what Michelle Carter was just convicted of.  Stop and think, would you?

Some have accused me of being far right… Sorry to disillusion you but I am in the middle.  Never voted straight ticket, never will.  I vote for the person’s character or in some cases the lesser of two evils.  I do vote, and my opinions are well founded on research beyond the television and what someone on some news channel tells me.  If it sounds too far out there, it probably is.

On a different topic, Diamond Joe has been on Amazon a week and is selling nicely.  To those of you that have read my book sending me helpful feedback, thanks so much!  I really like that story, and I hope that it will sell well around the world.

Romance novels are never out of style!

I started another book about witches, warlocks, dragons, and pirates!  I like the way that it is going and yes, I am making these tropes unique. Uniquely TW that is.

Love to hear your thoughts.  Please keep it civil, and we can talk about it.

If not, please don’t waste your time or mine. Have a Super Weekend!

“Real Christians” follow the rules of Jesus”

Driving the rural countryside the other day I saw this billboard.  Not some tiny little sign off the side of the road but an honest to goodness billboard.

“Real Christians” follow the rules of Jesus”

“Rules, Jesus?”

What does that mean exactly?

Maybe this is just me but, I see this sign right up there with those who parade around holding signs saying that God hates Fags.

First off I have no idea what a “real Christian is.”  I don’t, do you?

To those of us who have an intellect that is at least twelfth grade and have read the Bible, there are really few rules to it to be a Christian.

The first and most controversial of them is, that you are called.

Does that mean that your cell phone will come up with this number 1-800 H-E-A-V-E-N?  ( Yea I know it is missing a digit, but it is God after all so he can so have a unique number.)  “By the way, if he ever sends you a card, save the stamp!”

How can you tell if you are called?

Do you have a desire to learn more?

Have you been putting off picking up the book or going to church with a friend?

There are many ways to be called and not one of them is cast in stone.

“You must profess that Jesus is your salvation.  He paid the price for any sin you ever did, or will do.”

Read that last part again, “or will do.”   He knew you before you were born and created you anyway.

How do we know that; the Bible tells us so.”

You are either a Christian, or you are not.  I don’t understand how someone can try and decipher levels of Christianity! It is not biblical. Therefore they do not exist.

I deal with this topic in many of my books.  Bigots who hide behind the bible do a disservice to others.  They give Christianity a bad name with their warped understanding of it.  If you are sitting there thinking it is my understanding that is warped, think again….  People are famous for taking things out of context and making the Bible say things that it does not.

The early church made it illegal for you to own a Bible.

Now keep in mind that the early church was not only your spiritual guidance, they were also the educators, and most importantly the government!  Yea, if you disagreed with them, it was bad news for you!

Juxtaposing LGBT and Christianity has been a fine tight wire to walk.  I deal with this in many of my novels, Diamond Joe being the latest.  It is not the overarching theme of any of my novels, but I deal with it as many are on the fence and honestly need to hear something other than “God Hates Fags!”

It is simply not the case!  Anyone who does something to cause someone to turn away from him is actually in more hot water than your average sinner.   Christians are called to love the sinner and not the sin.  That is it, end of story!  Your sexual preference does not make a difference, you are no different than any of the other sinners in any of those buildings we call churches.  That in itself is another misnomer as the “church” are the saints or the body of believers, not the damned building!

I just released Diamond Joe, and people are buying it all over the world, go check it out and tell me what you think.  Some of the first e-mails in are super positive!

Tell me your thoughts on this blog.  No hate please, the world is full enough of that.  I will not tolerate it here or in my life.

Constructive criticism or honest disagreement I can handle.  Spewing vile rhetoric under some pseudonym, save your breath.
