My Happy Place, Where is yours?

Having written many different novels covering multiple genres I often get questions posed to me about why this or that?

The truth of the matter is simple.  What I was writing about at that time excited me to do so.  What inspired me to write about that subject is another topic.

Some subject matter in our society today is “forbotten” (forbidden) by some group of people who think that they have some right to be its curator and arbiter for all time. Guess what; you don’t own shit!

In the UK I could be in trouble for some of my subject matter as they don’t have freedom of speech.  If I say something about some group that is hateful I would be called the hate monger.  In your vernacular UK, that is stuffed up! I would vote those cockwombels out of office if it were me.  If you like what I write, you should have the right and ability to read it.  If you don’t approve of my writings, take your business elsewhere.  Vote with your purse.

Now truth told, the folks in the UK are some of my most loyal customers, so thank you so much for that!

As a writer I can write about Race, Gay issues, straight issues, political issues, I can even write about romance. LOL

Writing fiction with gay couples has been something that interested me in that I have many gay friends.  I care about them as one might care for a brother or sister.  Whether I agree with their lifestyle or not, does not give me any right to judge them.  Male-Female romance has been done to death.  How many ways can Boy meet a girl and come through some struggles with misunderstandings or biases that they must get through before they reach happily ever after?

“Come on; it has been done to death!”  I like strong female characters.  I think the world needs more strong women or female characters.  Don’t confuse that with ultra-feminism, it is not that.  Women are not all airheads as they are often portrayed, and I seek to break that stereotype.

Have you ever watched a Hallmark movie where the leading male figure just made you say EWWW!

It has happened, but not too often.  I wanted to ask the producer or director “what were you thinking?”

Some men are just creepy, and I guess some male directors don’t see it.  There have been movies in the past where the leading lady had to say all the sweet nothings to someone else as the leading man was a douche.   I love the back stories like that.  When Hollywood just misses the mark, it warms my heart strangely and wonderfully. Why? It lets me know that nobody is perfect and even with all of their resources they screwed up.  Much like finding typos in professionally edited books I feel a little less worried about a there instead of a “their.”

Why am I talking about movies?

Your characters must work not only for you but your audience. When creating your characters, you need to keep in mind who your audience is.  The tropes are just that, as the creator, it is up to you to put a different spin on them. The story must have some appeal to it.  Why would someone want to pick up your book?

We all judge a book by its cover.

The cover art must pique your audience’s curiosity.   I liken it to junk mail.  I get stacks of mail every day.  Someone wants to sell me a product or service.  The phone rolls to voice mail if I don’t know the caller, I don’t allow salespeople to get past the receptionist, so how do they sell to me?

How do you sell to your audience?

In my junk mail, each piece of mail gets about 3 seconds of my attention.  Three count them three seconds before it ends up in the circular file cabinet.

The subject matter must be photographic, and it cannot be cluttered.  I need to determine if I want to give it more than 3 seconds within three seconds time.

Your cover should be just as inviting.  What does your cover say?

In my novel Diamond Joe, I do this.

On the cover of Diamond Joe, I show a young lady running on the beach in a bikini. Under her is a superimposed racehorse.  Within three seconds you know it has something to do with a female jockey. You know that horses are involved.  The name of the book tells you something about the possible storyline as it is “Diamond Joe.” Who or what is Diamond Joe?  What does that have to do with this young lady?

In the very uncluttered text, I have “A heartwarming story of courage of love.”

Now within three seconds, you know enough about this book to either pick it up to look inside or keep looking as you have a thing against heartwarming stories.

Free advice from me to you.

Junk mail must be created similarly, and most often it is not.  Just to assist those that put out such mail, if you put a letter opener inside your letter, you are guaranteed to get more than 3 seconds.  If you put your logo and contact information on that letter opener, you are going to have your company information on that person’s desk or in their hand every morning when they go through the mountains of junk mail. One more trick, if it is just a letter make sure that when they pull the letter out of the envelope, your business card falls in their lap.

We could talk more about logos, but that is indeed outside the scope of this blog.  I am after all talking to authors or writers that want to write a book, not companies who want to sell stuff.

Once you open up that cover, what are you looking for?

The tease the hook, why buy this book?

Tell us something about this girl on the beach or the horse, what is it about her that will compel us to dig a little deeper.  Who is this Diamond Joe?

I have read this book a dozen times since it was published.  Yes, I am on the hunt for typos and grammatical errors, but the entire truth told, I love the characters and the story.  Each paragraph excites me, and that is what I began this blog about, why do I write what I write.  I love what I write!

Since I love most of the classics, I would guess that what I love about them and what I write, might be in line with what Austin, Hemmingway or Dickens might have penned.

If after this much time, and that many reads, and I still want to curl up with it, with a cat or my “mews” (muse) and a warm blanket with some hot tea close by, that should tell you something.  The winter is a particular time for me and warm blankets. Tea and cats along with a good book are pure gold! Now if you add some excellent Merlot, Dark Chocolat and a crackling fireplace, I might have to pick up Cyber Subs or Perpetual Palpitation and switch to something a little more naughty.

May you find your happy place and take the time to enjoy it as I try so hard to do.  Life is precious don’t waste it! Find your Happy Place!

Nude Webcamming, Is that something you would consider?

If it were not for all of the different types of people in this world, it would be pretty dull.

Greetings and welcome to my Blog.

Toward the bottom you will find and excerpt from Cyber Subs.

Tonight I wanted to answer some questions regarding some feedback, as well as some twitter comments.

“Did you know that you have some followers who are openly gay and even Trans?  Some followers of yours are openly porn dealers!”

“Yes, I know that some of my followers are gay.  Yes, I am aware that some of them are actively seeking clients for their activities on sites like My Free Cams.”

If I follow them or RT them, that does not mean that I endorse what they are doing.  I also will not condemn them.

Yes, from time to time I will re-tweet those that follow me if there is something that I think others will find of value.  The ladies that “model” to fulfill fantasies of people around the world most probably do this in other local places beside the internet. Just a guess.

I welcome civil discourse from anyone that reads my blogs or books.  I will not judge you.  I may ignore you; if you are not pleasant.

If you were to gather some folks and put them all into a darkened room, I think you would find that what we have in common, far outweighs the biases that some impose on others.  I would encourage everyone to seek that which we share, and not that which divides us.

When I started marketing my books after I wrote several, someone followed me on Twitter who on her bio said “Cyber Whore or Slut.” I forget which.  Folks, I don’t judge people, that is above my pay grade.  If it were not for all of the different types of people in this world, it would be pretty dull.

If you ever get a chance to meet me, you will find that I will engage you in conversation.  Your tattoos or piercings or race or ethnicity or sexual orientation does not, or will not daunt me.  While many do this to rebel against that which is, I am not dissuaded.  I see through you! By “this,” I mean excessive ink or piercings or what have you.

Assuming that you are not stoned or incapable of articulating your speech, I welcome everyone to participate in civil, social intercourse. (talking)  Your ideas have merit!  Everyone brings something to the table.  I value you, just like I value those that read my work or blog or tweets.  It makes little difference if you are in lockstep agreement with me or not.

If we seek improvement or betterment, or as I like to say enlightenment, that is more than half the battle.   Someone once said, “if you are coasting, you are going downhill!”

Think about that, and then apply it to your life.

This person who followed me on Twitter piqued my curiosity as to why she would describe herself in such a pejorative manner.  Unaware that there was such a place as My Free Cams, I followed her link.  Her description was and is part of her marketing strategy.  That and some lewd pictures of herself.   I am all about self-discovery and accepting oneself for who and what they are.  I am also an artist who loves the human body of any gender!

I for one am thankful that she followed me.  We have talked a few times on Twitter. However, she has no clue that her spirit, if you will, is part of my book.

It took little time to discover what this site was about, and the fantasies that it facilitates. Some would say that this is probably a hollow existence. I have found however that imaginations, unlike people, seldom let you down.  One could arguably question the mental stability of those of us who choose to live vicariously through such actions; I would say that as long as you can separate the two, you are good to go.

Many of us live through some sort of fantasy, and not all fantasies are sexual. Some might watch sports, secretly envisioning themselves as the quarterback or the pitcher. When we read (and when we write) we live through the characters in the book.  That is why my characters are so dynamic!

Those that read EL James books are living vicariously through her characters.

Imagine if you will, allowing someone to pull down your panties and take a belt to your bare bottom. What could someone possibly get out of that?

After a suitable amount of investigative research, I wrote such a book as an experiment.  Science Fiction is my usual mode of thinking when it comes to writing.  Exploring erotic fantasy with a technological bent was and is close.

Cyber Subs, no not submarines but SUBS!

Trisha and Denise were friends in a farming community in Kansas.  If you have ever lived in such a place, you know that it can get pretty dull.  Human sexuality being what it is, adding the internet into the mix, this story wrote itself.

Cyber Subs receives over 2500 hits every day.  Please consider owning your own copy, and by all means, give me feedback.  The price is low because I, like many, are independent authors.  That means that agents and publishers are not getting anything out of it.  It also means that we as authors do everything!  We write it, edit it, market it and do the cover art.  The amazing part is that Amazon and other e-publishing sites still get over 30%, and they do nothing.  They provide the place to put it along with millions of others.  They have some upfront programming cost, and everything else is automated gravy.

If you as an author or I chose to use their marketing tools, they charge for that as well.  That is why we enjoy it when someone like yourself reads our books and offers some feedback.  We love it when you give us feedback! I will guarantee that there are typos in our books.  Since I find them all the time in published Barns and Nobles type books, I can predict you will see them as well.  If you see them in my novels, please let me know.  I publish my books with a revision number much as software writers do with their code.  I will fix them when enough are found either by yourself, and or others like you, and fix them.  Once I do I will tweet about it as I did with Saga of the Starduster.  That novel is still my number one best seller!

Let’s see if we can get Cyber Subs to give it some competition!

Follow me and find me at the links below.

My gosh, I don’t have to say it but press this blog and help me get my blog going better.  I spend hours writing good stuff here, and just a few of you know about it.  Thanks!

Much Love –TW

Below you will see an excerpt from Cyber Subs.

Trisha has bombed out at finding work in Kansas and decided to leave for Phoenix where her friend is managing to make a living.  What her friend does is shocking!

Escape from Hell

Trisha’s brother was secretly happy for his sister getting out of Kansas.  He knew that she was unhappy on the farm. After graduating from college, the jobs were not there.

“Do you think you will be coming home again sis,” David asked?

“David, I am not going to lie, I hope not, not to stay anyway.  I love you and Dad, but this is not for me.”

“After Mom passed I knew it was rough on you; Dad was so upset with you for leaving that he has me driving you to the airport.”

“David, I know you understand; I am not ready to be “the little woman” without the perks that go with it.  Farm life sucks!  I am twenty-six years old, and still a virgin for Pete sake, at least you get some action..”

“My friend Billy likes you, Trisha.”

“Billy, you can’t be serious. We are talking about a guy that failed gym class.  This guy fights the hogs for their slop!  I think I can do better.”

David laughed; he knew that she was right.

“Sis, come home for the holidays, there is little going on that time of year. By then maybe Dad and I will learn how to cook without poisoning ourselves.”

“Just remember, the smoke detector is not the oven timer! You will be alright.”

“Do you need me to park, and help with your bags?”

“No, one bag rides on the other, I got this David.  Stay in touch; you have my number.”

“Love you, sis, take care of yourself.”

David watched for a minute as she went to curbside check-in, then up the escalator as if she was running for her life.

Getting through the airport gave her time to think about what she was doing.

Her friend Denise moved before she graduated and managed to make it in Phoenix. If Denise could do it, Trisha figured she might too.

She missed her roommate and all the things that they shared; Trisha was looking forward to catching up.

The flight from Kansas City was bumpy as they went over the southern tip of Colorado on her to way Phoenix.  Once off the plane, it was evident that she was no longer in Kansas. The heat was intense; Trisha wished that she had a bottle of water as she waited on Denise.

A honking horn signaled Trisha that Denise was waiting along the curb for her.  It was all they could do to fit her luggage into the lime green Volkswagen that Denise had in Kansas.

“You still have Denny?”

“Can you believe it? How have you been sugar?”

“I was going crazy.  After mom passed, Dad has been a mess.  He and David are obsessed with the farm, and I got tired of being the “little woman.”

“That had to suck.  So, how long can you stay?”

“That is up in the air. If I can find a job and support myself, I might just stay here period.  Otherwise, I am going to try until my savings run out, and then buy a ticket home.”

“I don’t mean to sound cliché but Trisha; you’re not in Kansas anymore.  There are opportunities here.”

“You were pretty tight-lipped on the phone, what do you do to make it?”

“Don’t judge me, just listen and then we can talk.”

Pulling into the parking lot of her apartment complex, they each grabbed a bag and headed inside.

Denise had a three-bedroom apartment, a master, guest, and office.

“This is lovely Denise, ok, if you are managing this by yourself, I will try hard not to judge you, what are you doing?”

“Primarily I do waitress stuff, Trisha, opening her closet she showed her some outfits that belonged to a chain of restaurants that specialize in entertaining their men clientele.”

“You’re showing your boobs for tips?”

“I seem to remember you getting a few pinches on your bottom at the truck stop for tips; there is no touching here and, it is just some of the goods, not all of me.”

“If my parents had found out about those pinches, I would have been killed,” Trisha said.

“Me too but, we made some money, and we survived Lawrence Kansas.”

“In a strange way Denise, I miss those little pinches.  Does that even make sense?” Denise smiled at her reaching behind her, pinching her bottom, “are you better now?”

“Thanks!” she said laughing at her. “Are they hiring?”

“We are, and I already have you pretty much hired, are you up for pulling a shift tonight?”

“Without even an interview?”

Touching Trisha’s breasts through her blouse, “honey, with these things, if you wear one of my outfits here, talk like you have a few neurons firing in that beautiful blond head of yours, it will not even be a question.”

Trisha liked the feel of her touch.  She wondered what had changed.  Denise had never felt her before in any manner.

“If I can make some money, it will extend my stay, are you sure you are ok with me staying here with you?”

“For the first week or so, you are my guest Trisha, if you feel like you can make it, and you want to stay, share the rent and groceries with me.  Deal?”

“Ok, I guess I can wait tables again.”

“After we get you unpacked, let me show you a few tricks to get the most tips.”

“Like we used to get the answers for the test and share them?”

“Just like it…We are going to have fun.”

“I have missed you, Denise; do you remember all the adventures we had?”

“You mean the trouble we got into with the sisters?”

“Yea, that too, but we had fun.”

“Between the farm and school, I could not wait to get out of town!” Denise said.

“It was bearable until Mom died of cancer. After you left and she died, I could not stand it!”

“I am surprised you lasted as long as you did.”

“I think I still have bruises from Barney at the truck stop.  Are you sure they don’t touch here?”

Denise looked at her bottom and then her, “you know, with that bottom and those boobs, you may make more than me. No, they don’t touch.”

“You said primarily you wait tables, what else do you do?”

“Are you still open-minded?” She asked.

“I will still smoke weed if you can get it, how open-minded do I need to be?”

Denise led her to her office.  Opening the door, it looked more like a photography studio than an office.

“Ok, I will bite, what is this?”

“Trisha, I make a lot of money with this, and I have fun doing it.  I smoke a little grass, drink a little wine and tease the hell out of people from around the world.  They do not know who I am, or where I am.”

“Still not judging here, I have seen some cam stuff on the internet, is that what you do?”

“I am not sure what you saw but, do you remember Stacy that lives on that farm on the east side?”

“Of course, what about her.”

“I saw her on here, out in the field at that picnic table doing this from the farm.”

“You mean the picnic table we all ate watermelon on a few years ago?”

“Yes, and we played in the kiddie pool, it was still there!”

“Small world, how do you keep people from knowing who you are?”

Pointing to wigs, makeup and other outfits in the closet, she looked at Trisha. “Still not judging me?”

“No, I think I have butterflies in my stomach thinking about what it must be like to do that.”

“The first few times it was fucking awesome.  There is this huge adrenaline rush.”

“Do we have time to see some of this before we go wait tables?”

“Help me fix some lunch; we can watch a little while we eat.  I can take the laptop out to the kitchen.”

Trisha had obtained a quick tour of the camera site before they had to get dressed.  Fixing her clothing to look like she had worked there for years, the manager hired her on the spot.  Denise trained her in no time; it was a limited menu.

On the way home that night they stopped for fast food.  “What did you think of your first day?”

“I should be exhausted, but I am wired.”

“We have the same schedule; Burt knows that you are staying with me, and he likes you.  Between the two of us, we will probably bring in more customers for him.”

“These boobs have not done much for me so far; why not bring in some money?”

“That is the way I look at it. I am good for a couple of hours, would you like to watch me cam a little?”

Trisha looked at her, “Ok, I think I would, that will be terribly personal won’t it?”

“You are my oldest and dearest friend, besides; you might like what you see.”

Trisha now knew that something had changed with her friend.  A frisson went through her, as she thought about how this night might end. Denise set her up in an opposite corner of the room with her laptop logged into the site.  Trisha could see the cameras that Denise was using as well as a behind the scenes look.

This novel is 105 thousand words of a story.  I admit that it has some tawdriness to it but, it is a complete story with humor, love, plot twist and turns and even some remote love of a very different kind.

Share with your friends and assist us, independent authors!

Thanks!
